How to Relieve Canker Sores

Posted .

If you currently suffer from a canker sore and you wish there was a way to relieve the pain, our Cory Williams, DDS team is more than happy to help you!

Canker sores in Wilmington, North Carolina, can be troublesome, painful, and irritating, and it’s best to find comfort as soon as possible. To help you do so, Dr. Cory Williams and our team recommend doing the following things:

-Avoid eating citrus, acidic, and spicy foods. These products will continue to make the situation worse and will provide additional pain.

-Gum chewing can easily irritate your sore, so it’s best to avoid chewing gum.

-Keep up on oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing your smile at least once a day. This will help keep foods or debris away that could irritate the sore.

-Visit your dentist and ask for treatment. Your dentist might prescribe an antimicrobial mouthwash, a corticosteroid ointment, or an over-the counter solution that will help you.

If your canker sore is unusually large, lasts longer than three weeks, or produces intolerable pain even after using these provided tips, please call 910-763-1072 as soon as possible and schedule an appointment with your dentist. We will be happy to take a look at your oral health and do all we can to improve it.
