One method we use is an easy and thorough procedure called dental implant surgery.

Titanium is an interesting element because our body loves to fuse to it. A man named Per-Ingvar Branemark discovered that the gums and jawbone accept titanium and treat it as part of the body, and his fascinating discovery in 1952 led to an important idea. Dr. Branemark realized that he could place a titanium filament inside the jaw and attach a prosthetic to it and it wouldn’t get infected or rejected. Though science and engineering have considerably improved dental implants, they are essentially the same thing.

You and our friendly dentist, Dr. Cory Williams, can decide if you need dental implants, and if you do, you can discuss the type of implant you want.

There are two main implants that you may discuss:

Endosteal implants — These are inserted into the jawbone. When the surrounding gum tissue heals, your doctor connects a post to the initial implant and a prosthetic tooth to that.

Subperiosteal implants — A metal frame is fitted to the jawbone below the gum tissue. The gum tissue heals and the frame becomes infused with the jaw. Like the procedure for endosteal implants, artificial teeth are mounted to posts.
